About this site

Sense Of Doubt.com is a place where to explore ideas, to document what works and what doesn’t, and to indulge in a decent amount of head-scratching.

My name’s Joe. I live in Cardiff, Wales. My background is in journalism, and I work as a producer for the web department of a UK broadcaster. I made my first website in 1999, and since then have been involved in dozens more – both personally and professionally.

Much of my knowledge came about through learning from people better than me, but it involved quite a bit of research and digging around nonetheless. I spent much time trying stuff out which turned out not to work, encountered some dead ends, and eventually came up with a clearer idea of how to launch sites without too much time or trouble, mainly using the WordPress CMS.

I wanted to document the process, to share the knowledge and to help others in my position. Sense Of Doubt was named after the foreboding track on David Bowie’s “Heroes”, which summed up the confusion and uncertainty I had while developing my first sites. I put this together with the principle in mind that if I was asking a question, others would be too.

It’s specific to my own experience, of course, and I don’t aim to answer all questions on everything to do with website creation. But if you’re thinking of putting together a site of your own, one that’s more complex than a straightforward wordpress.com blog, this may help in some way.

That’s the aim, at least. There’s also room for other random musings. Hey, we’ve all got a platform, haven’t we?
